The mission of the Ordination Justice Initiative is to bring the Roman Catholic Church into alignment with God’s dream of a priesthood where no vocation is denied.

At stake in ordination justice is not just who stands at the altar but the very ways that humanity understands itself. A lopsided priest symbol creates a lopsided understanding of God. A lopsided understanding of God produces a lopsided world.

The Catholic Church is in a historic moment.

Support for ordination justice is growing across the globe at every level of the Church, not just among laity but also among vowed religious sisters and brothers, as well as ordained deacons, priests, bishops, and cardinals. Yet the Church resists moving into alignment with God on this issue. One essential reason is that the Church struggles to imagine its future with the full participation of women in Church life.

OJI works to create the conditions that make transformation possible by expanding the Catholic imagination. We do this through formation, encounter, and engagement that helps support the Church in accepting God's invitation to justice.

OJI is developing a downloadable formation curriculum that invites Catholics to explore the Scripture, Tradition, theology, and history related to ordination justice.

OJI is building a global oral history archive that preserves the stories of women who experience a call to priesthood, making visible the vocations that are erased from Church life while also revealing the gifts the Church is failing to receive against God's desires.

OJI has an engagement plan that will bring ordination justice squarely into the consciousness of the Church so that the issue can no longer be ignored.
